Protect Your Health with Copper's Natural Power

Copper...

Without cleaning, it stays bacteria and virus free.
The more you use it, the more protected you are.
Its capacity is inexhaustible. It’s a supreme gift of Mother Nature.
Copper never sleeps, always fighting an infection.

What the Ancients knew, Modern Science has confirmed. Copper is a powerful virus and bacteria killer that charges with a touch. Thanks to its specific atomic makeup, copper acts as an antiviral and antimicrobial molecular oxygen grenade and… it never stops. Copper's never ceasing self-disinfecting capacity lasts forever.
The Environmental Protection Agency has proven copper to be a natural antimicrobial agent.

Why Copper Works

 Science Behind Copper's Disinfecting Ability

The certain ability to kill viruses and bacteria belongs to the natural characteristics of heavy metals in general. However, copper’s specific atomic makeup gives it an extra killing power. Thanks to a free electron in its outer orbital shell of electrons, oxidation-reduction reactions are more potent than other metals and therefore more effective in combating the viruses and bacteria.

When a microbe lands on copper, ions blast the pathogen and prevent cell respiration. It punches holes in its outer coating, creating free radicals and thus accelerating the kill. And not just that. The ions seek and destroy DNA and RNA inside a bacteria or virus, preventing the mutation resistant to drugs. This process is known as “contact killing”, as the destruction of harmful microbes begins immediately upon contact to copper.

Schematic representation of the events in contact-killing

(A) Copper ions dissolved from the copper surface causes cell damage,
(B) the cell membrane ruptures, leading to loss of the cell content,
(C) copper ions lead to the generation of toxic radicals which cause further damage,

(D) and DNA becomes degraded and leaves the cell.

Ancient wisdom in modern times

Researches and studies around the world have confirmed that using copper alloys in frequently-touched surfaces significantly reduces spread of infections and an increasing number of countries have started implementing copper into their health care systems. The EPA has registered about 500 copper surfaces as antimicrobial and proven copper to be a natural antimicrobial agent.

No wonder that copper's intrinsic ability to create an antimicrobial ionic field has made it a vital element of human good health for all of recorded history. The first recorded use of copper as an infection-killing agent comes from Smith's Papyrus, the oldest-known medical document.

Sumerians, Phoenicians, Chinese, as well as Ayurvedic India knew about copper being an infection-killing agent thousands of years ago.
The Phoenicians inserted shavings from their bronze swords into battle wounds to prevent infection.
The Chinese used copper coins as medication to treat heart and stomach pain as well as bladder diseases. Egyptian used copper plumbing. Their records of copper’s antiviral ability date back to 3200 B.C. They also designated the ankh, a symbol of eternal life, to denote copper in hieroglyphs.
Greeks and Romans found that drinking water out of copper-containing vessels prevents the growth of bacteria significantly more than a wooden cup, for example.

Copper in a microbes killing action

(Edited excerpt from an interview with Bill Keevil, a microbiology researcher and a copper expert at the University of Southampton (U.K.), from the Radiolab podcast Invisible Allies.)

"Copper has a free electron that runs around the outside of the atom. If it sees something attractive, it transfers to the other. It'll leave the copper and it'll pop on over to the other thing. When it gets near a bacteria, the electrons will travel away and bond in a very loose way with some of the atoms that make up the cell membrane of the bacteria.
That changes its properties, disrupts the smooth membrane integrity and everything starts to break down. It starts to become porous. When the copper gets inside the cell, it reacts with enzymes, destroys them and then finally, the copper destroys the DNA and the bacteria, the nucleic acid. Moreover, it embeds itself into the DNA of the bacteria and prevents replication."
